Erfgoed - Kasteel Ter Ham

Castle ter Ham is a water castle with an long history, dating back to the 8th century. Last century, the property came into the possession of the government, which commissioned PMV to find a profitable repurposing.

Around 1500, the first castle on the site was demolished by order of Filip Hinckaert. He had it replaced by the castle we know today. In the mid-20th century, the building came into the hands of the government. It underwent a number of renovations and was then furnished and used as a reception and conference space. On 14 January 2014, the Facilities Agency and PMV signed a cooperation agreement for the economic redevelopment. The agreement provided, on the one hand, for a feasibility study to find a new economic reallocation for the site (and to minimise future financial burdens and liabilities for the government) and, on the other hand, gave PMV the task of conducting a market procedure with a view to attracting a private partner who would be responsible for operating the site.

Healthcare sector

On 25 September 2014, a 50-year long lease was signed with Optimum C, an entrepreneur active in the healthcare sector. Optimum C uses the site as a training and expertise centre for its own staff as well as for outsiders. In October 2017, Optimum C obtained a permit for the construction of 20 assisted living homes on the site. Those homes have since been completed. On 26 July 2018, PMV bought the bare property from the Flemish Region.
