Bioqube Ventures kondigt vandaag de lancering aan van Bioqube Factory Fund I, een nieuw risicokapitaalfonds gericht op investeringen in de vroege fase van de ontwikkeling van innovatieve geneesmiddelen. Het fonds wordt opgehaald in twee rondes en werd in de eerste ronde alvast onderschreven voor een bedrag van 60 miljoen euro door een groep erkende investeerders, waaronder PMV.
Andere kenbaar gemaakte partijen zijn het Europees InvesteringsFonds (EIF), de Federale Participatie- en Investeringsmaatschappij (FPIM), Belfius Insurance, Molenwater Groep, de familie Machiels, de familie Dr. Paul Janssen, de investeringsvehikels van ondernemers zoals Aat van Herk, Vic Swerts en Jan Robrechts en de strategische investeerders Genmab en Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JJDC, Inc. (JJDC). Genmab, is één van de vooraanstaande internationale biotechbedrijven gespecialiseerd in de ontwikkeling van antilichamen voor de behandeling van kanker. JJDC is de strategische risicokapitaalarm van Johnson & Johnson, de meest internationaal vertegenwoordigde onderneming in zorgproducten ter wereld.

Het fonds zal actief zijn in Europa met als geografische focus de Benelux, Frankrijk en Duitsland. Door de unieke basis aan investeerders, een op maat gemaakte investeringsstrategie, een hands-on team en bevoorrechte toegang tot academische onderzoeksgroepen en industriepartners, is Bioqube Factory Fund I vastberaden om innovatieve wetenschap te ondersteunen die moet leiden naar doorbraken voor patiënten in deze dynamische ecosystemen.

Bioqube Factory Fund I zal de focus leggen op innovaties in de gezondheidssector met een duidelijk accent op geneesmiddelenontwikkeling. Het fonds zal daarbij een duale investeringsstrategie toepassen waarbij naast de meer klassieke investeringen in eerste en daaropvolgende financieringsrondes er ook bijzondere aandacht zal zijn voor de financiering van projecten die verdere derisking vereisen voorafgaand aan de creatie van nieuwe bedrijven.

De Managing Partners van het fonds zijn Debora Dumont, Dirk Reyn en Nico Vandervelpen. Het nieuwe fonds bouwt verder op de verwezenlijkingen van het team van Bioqube Ventures dat in 2016 werd opgericht door Debora Dumont en Nico Vandervelpen. Het team is samengesteld uit investeringsmanagers, sectorexperten en ondernemers die een bewezen expertise hebben in het succesvol leiden van ondernemingen op hun groeipad.
